Jan Bolwell's cast shows the scars of her double mastectomy breast cancer surgery. Jono used his experience with car bodies on this unique torso and also reflects Jan's work and life as a dancer, by adding airbrushed contemporary dance figures into the high-gloss surface.
Jono Vinsen - Automotive painter
Jono Vinsen is the parts manager at Horowhenua Motor Company in Levin. He has a passion for auto painting and finishing and has completed many projects on custom hot rods, motorcycles and furniture, as well as promotional displays.
Working with automotive paint techniques, he used his skill and experience with car bodies on the unique torso of Jan Bolwell. Cast by master plasterer Paul Stanton of Carrara, it shows the scars of her double mastectomy breast cancer surgery.
Jono is experienced in airbrushing, and while applying a high-gloss finish in Jan's favourite colour, he also reflects her work and life as a dancer, by adding airbrushed contemporary dance figures onto his BraveArt work.
Many of his vehicles have won awards at motor shows. He particularly enjoys painting portraits, as he says "it gives me great satisfaction when a customer loves the work I have done of their loved one."
Jono has supported many other cancer support causes including Canteen and he believes "this is a great cause."

Jan Bolwell - Choreographer & dancer
Jan is a Paekakariki based dancer, choreographer, writer, teacher and artistic director of Crows Feet Dance Collective as well as an actor/producer for Handstand Productions.
Her credits in the dance and theatre world are extensive, winning a Chapman Tripp theatre award in 1995, and having toured many highly successful solo dance and theatre works throughout NZ.
Jan once paddled with the CanSurvive Dragon Boat Team, and fully understands their courage in the face of breast cancer.
Jan has had a double mastectomy to combat the disease which struck her at the age of 48. As part of her recovery, she choreographed and performed a contemporary dance, Off My Chest, which was seen by film-maker Gaylene Preston and included in her film on cancer survivors, Titless Wonders.
Jan says "the experience of breast cancer, such a horrible one, changed my life absolutely for the better. I have had ten years of creativity. I've learned never to take life for granted.”
“I applaud the CanSurvive Dragon Boat Team, because I know that living a full and physically active life is a wonderfully healing experience” Jan says.
She adds “that’s why, when opportunities like this come up I say -you’ve got to do it!”
